Slovakia is a country in the heartland of Europe, with a big potential for foreign investors. The largest sectors with potential growth include electrical machinery, automotive components, information/management and communication systems, financial services, environmental products and services.
Slovakia became the full-fledged member of the EU on May 1, 2004. Membership in the organization adds to the country's credibility and security as a home for foreign direct investment. Major privatization is nearly complete, the banking sector is almost completely in foreign hands, and FDI has picked up. Slovakia is becoming an increasingly attractive place for FDI, particularly for manufactures looking to set up or expand their operations in Central Europe and the EU at large.
Several important Japanese companies are in Slovakia with substantial investments (Yazaki Corporation, Sony Corporation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Siix Corporation, Araco Corporation, Todenco Co., Minebea, Onamba Central Europe, TAISEI Corp., TRIM LEADER, Summit Motors Slovakia, Kitani Electric etc.).
